in the name and love of God

St Laurence, Appleton

is a registered Fairtrade Church

Appleton Open Gardens took place on a breezy and rather drizzly afternoon on Sunday 2nd June.  Despite the rain, this event was wonderfully well supported by more than 300 visitors both from the village and many keen garden lovers, who came from much further afield.  The eight gardens on display looked stunning and were greatly enjoyed, as was the superb hedge-laying display which was kindly provided by  John Savings.  The teas and bookstall in the barn did a roaring trade which was then followed by a wonderful 'Songs of Praise' led by Rev'd Ken Campbell, and finally a very well-earned glass of Pimm's to finish the afternoon off.

We would like to say a very big thank you to all those who so generously opened their gardens for all their hard work and also to the very kind bakers and the many helpers for their time and great support.  We are also extremely grateful to Richard and Felicity for hosting the key events once more at 'South Lawn'.   Some of the money raised has been sent to 'Restore' - an Oxfordshire based mental health charity.

Colouring Competition

A wonderful selection of pictures submitted made judging the colouring competition a difficult task.  Congratulations to all who entered on your beautiful work.
